The novel addresses themes of "the self and the other" and relationships between people in France, racism and fanaticism in France, the suffering of the expatriate in his diaspora, marital infidelity, the search for love, disappointment, sadness and regret, music and its impact on human life, and the impact of reading and writing. It also raises philosophical and existential questions expressed by "Samih", the main character.

Samih is the main character; his name became Sami at school in France, pointing to racism in all its aspects in France.

After Samih married "Rachel", a Jewish woman, and they had their daughter Sarah, he cheated on his wife with "Emily". The couple divorced, Rachel obtained custody of the child, and he also lost his job at the company he founded with his wife and with the help of his uncle (Rachel's father).

He currently works as a musician in a cafe and meets many women ("Clotilde, Asmahan... Manuela... Hanan") and narrates the inner feelings of women, their needs and desires through these women.

He meets a Lebanese and educated woman named "Alya" through a dating app.

Samih returns to Lebanon, goes to her town to meet her, and discovers that he has been a victim of artificial intelligence throughout their acquaintance and correspondence.
