Novelist Maryam Al Tunaiji introduced her work with an introduction that read: “...the novel’s events may be somewhat similar to a cinematic text. Some of them reflect a real reality, and some of them are taken from the virtual world that we created from our whims to escape to when we don’t find what we desire in reality. But the most important thing is to take that lesson from the end to include it in our reality, which requires us to modify some concepts to appear better than it is. This is how I begin my novel, which I wove from an imagination tinged with something of a known historical reality. Sometimes imagination has a realistic dimension, and reality has a vivid imagination. “The Orchid Painting” is a dramatic novel that blends imagination with something of reality. Its events revolve around a Lebanese rural girl who lives in one of the southern suburbs. “Sara” is her mother’s only child. Her father died when she was young. All the events of the novel took place between 1970 and 1991.”
