Four days before the accident that took his life, Albert Camus wrote a letter to Maria Casarès, promising to have dinner with her on Tuesday once he arrived in Paris. He told her that he had closed his files, with no more work, just good wishes for the New Year. That was his last letter to the beloved woman he corresponded with from 1944 to 1959.
