A chance meeting between Salem and Safinaz in a cafe in Kuala Lumpur results in a tragedy carried by their son Safwan, who has features different from everyone else. He wanted to give those Asian features to the sun so that they would disappear with it forever, but he did not succeed. He was exposed to a shocking event at the age of ten, after which he turned into a mass of disorders. He was afflicted with a psychological illness (dissociative identity disorder), and began a journey of pain. The novel highlights the extent of the impact of memory, identity, aging and death on the formation of a human being.
