Writing the novel was like planting a field of opium, which would numb me indefinitely. I was shocked by so many words, and my soul returned to its peaceful cycle for several years, before more words piled up, narrowing the paths and roads, and attempts at avoidance and denial, and the usual random weeds grew on my heart once again, and I was overcome by a painful awakening when the effect of the previous novel wore off.
