The events of this novel take place within a family of noble families in Japan, where a girl lives with her sick mother, one of Japan's noblewomen, after her father had died some time ago.

This girl suffers from the feeling that her mother does not give her the same love that she gives to her brother who lives far away from them, and thus she constantly has a desire to run away from her mother.

But his mother's illness and her struggle on her deathbed delay this step, but do not cancel it. This coincides with the son's return to settle in the family home, after he had accumulated many debts due to his drinking day and night, and then his suicide after his mother's death and leaving his will to his sister, who had arranged for her to escape in search of a man who would be a reason for her happiness.
