Explanation of the Epistle on the Etiquette of the Student and Teacher

The virtue of knowledge, the honor of its people, the clarification of its fruits, and the urging of its pursuit are among the matters for which there is abundant evidence from the Shari'ah and which scholars, educators, and specialists have spoken about. Scholars have realized that knowledge cannot be disseminated properly, nor can it bear fruit for the scholar and the learner, in terms of attainment and practice, except by being adorned with noble morals and fine etiquette mentioned in this chapter, “The Etiquette of the Scholar and the Learner.” Therefore, scholars have focused on this topic and have compiled what relates to good advice, sound methodology, and sound guidance for both the student and the teacher, which is beneficial and helpful in the principles of education and classification. A teacher may have a wealth of knowledge, but may not convey it to the student in the easiest way, because he needs a set of etiquette, behavior, and knowledge of the best way to convey his information to his students. A student may be serious about acquiring knowledge and have a strong desire, but he does not achieve his goal of knowledge and obtain the desired result, because he lacks the etiquette that a seeker of knowledge should have.
