Sometimes our bitter failures lead to the greatest transformations in our lives. In 2012, James McCrae left a life of luxury in Minnesota and a successful career in advertising to move to New York City and pursue his dream of becoming a writer. Shortly after he arrived, Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast, submerging New York City underwater. Unemployed and short on money, James became homeless and fled to Culebra Island in Puerto Rico for refuge. He sat alone on Flamenco Beach, his doubts and fears at their peak, and what he discovered there was his ego, and it had a lot of nonsense to say. This story, which contains adventure, redemption, and transformation, reminds us that each of us has two voices within: the ego and the self. The ego is our reactive, attached mind that tells us we are victims of circumstances, and the self is the source of our intuition and imagination that reminds us that we create our reality. This book depicts the conflict between these two voices.
