The pure ones

A comprehensive and edited study of the biographies of the Mothers of the Believers, may God be pleased with them.

Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the Master of Messengers, the Leader of the God-fearing, and the mercy of God to the worlds; our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his pure and good family and companions. Now then:

Allah has singled out His Messenger from among the rest of His nation to marry more than four women, for great wisdom that will be mentioned in the folds of this book of ours. He called them in the Noble Qur’an the Mothers of the Believers, as He, the Most High, said: “A Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers. And those of kinship are closer to one another in the ordinance of Allah than the believers and the emigrants, unless you do to your relatives an appropriate kindness. That has been written in the Book.” (6) [Al-Ahzab: 6], and purified them from impurity, as God Almighty said: {And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves like that of the times of former ignorance. And establish prayer and give zakah and obey God and His Messenger. God only desires to remove from you the impurity, O people of the House, and to purify you with a thorough purification.} [Al-Ahzab: 33], and they endured with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, the hardship of calling to God and jihad and the harshness of life, and God prepared for them in the Hereafter a great reward, as God Almighty said: {If you desire the life of this world and its adornments, then come, I will provide for you.} And release you with a gracious release. And if you desire Allah and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter, then indeed, Allah has prepared for the good-doers among you a great reward. [Al-Ahzab: 29] So may Allah be pleased with them, they were righteous examples for the believing women in every time and place. There were among the Mothers of the Believers, young and old, and widows. Their lives with the Messenger of Allah were filled with unparalleled happiness, despite the many trials and tribulations. It is enough for them to be proud that the revelation descended in their homes, may Allah be pleased with them.

I saw the need to collect everything related to the Mothers of the Believers, from rulings, virtues, characteristics, and a comprehensive biography of each one of them, with investigation and scrutiny. I made an effort to collect the material for the book - despite my weakness, poverty, and limited knowledge - to make it an important reference in its field. I named it “The Pure Ones,” deriving from the Almighty’s saying to them: {And purify you with a thorough purification} [Al-Ahzab: 33], hoping to God that He makes it an important reference for everyone who wants to know the status of the Mothers of the Believers, may God be pleased with them.

I apologize to the honorable reader for any repetition in explaining some strange words and narrations of some hadiths. I may forget something and repeat it in other places. I hope that the repetition is not without benefit, and Allah is the Grantor of success. I ask Allah to accept it from me and to make it sincere for His noble sake and to benefit Islam and Muslims through it. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his good and pure family and companions.
