The book is considered an average book on interpretation in which the author collects the sayings of the interpreters from the past and others, and sometimes he does not mention the author of the saying but rather says: “And in the words of God Almighty (Then he mentions the verse)” two or three sayings and then he lists them, and sometimes he prefers one and sometimes he does not prefer another, and he also addresses the readings, and he also addresses the jurisprudential and linguistic issues.
The book is considered an important book among the books of interpretation by tradition, which collected the sayings of the predecessors and the imams of interpretation. Ibn al-Jawzi abridged the book Zad al-Masir from his book al-Mughni fi al-Tafsir, and he also abridged Zad al-Masir and made it into a book entitled Tadhkirat al-Areeb fi Tafsir al-Gharib. Zad al-Masir is therefore in the middle between three books of interpretation by the author. Ibn al-Jawzi selected the book from the purest interpretations, so he took from them the most correct, best and most authentic, and organized it in the abbreviated expression, relying on the rules of the theoretical archaeological method in interpretation.
