In the 1960s, names we know little about shone. An entire generation of people who dreamed, produced, and struggled, each in their own way in this part of the world, a place of endless labor. Some carried a rifle, some waved a pen, and some tried to incite reality by documenting it on screen. The author and his hero are two sailors in the same ship. Two camera companions in homelands ruled by authority that begins with the censor and ends with the citizen/father. Through Qais al-Zubaidi, the Iraqi, Syrian, Palestinian, Lebanese, and Berliner, the Arab who contributed to the establishment and development of Arab documentary cinema, Mohammed Malas evokes yesterday's generation with its characters, dreams, attempts, and failures. He recalls the scenes that brought him together with al-Zubaidi, the moments in which they collaborated to complete a joint project, and the moments of serenity in which Qais confided the concerns of his profession and his homeland, and spoke about himself, behind the camera, not in front of it. This book is not only a cinematic biography of Al-Zubaidi, Malas, and their generation of companions, but it is also a document of what once happened in the history of the Arab cinema industry and its development.
