In each story of this collection, the woman appears like a phantom from a land of wonder and strangeness. As you try to discern her features, you attempt to draw closer, seeking deeper understanding, only to find her slipping through your fingers, leaving behind only symbols and unanswered questions. "Woman in 17 Stories" is almost a single narrative, its warp and weft the life of the Eastern woman, expressed with all the honesty of the psyche she has known and experienced, not just in one generation, but across several. Emily Nasrallah's stories in this collection represent a new kind of story, yet they are not unfamiliar to her previous works in the fields of short stories and novels, as she addresses a subject that is almost the very pulse of the heart. As you try to grasp its essence, you strive to draw closer, seeking deeper understanding, but it slips through your fingers, leaving behind symbols and unanswered questions. "Women in 17 Stories" is almost a single narrative, woven and shaped by the life of the Eastern woman, with all the personal suffering she has known and endured, not just in one generation, but across many. Emily Nasrallah's stories in this collection possess a fresh flavor, though not entirely foreign to her previous works in short stories and novels. Here, she tackles a subject that is almost the very pulse of the heart.
