“I can’t talk to white people about the details of a problem if they don’t want to acknowledge it. Even worse is the white person who might be willing to accept the possibility of racism, but still thinks we’re entering this discussion on equal footing. We weren’t then, and we don’t now.” In February 2014, Rennie Eddo-Lodge posted an impassioned blog post about her deep frustration with the way discussions of race and racism in Britain are consistently shut down by those unaffected by them. She titled the post “Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race.” Her sharp, witty words struck a chord, and the post went viral, garnering a flood of comments from people eager to talk about their own similar experiences. Motivated by this response, Eddo-Lodge decided to delve into the source of these feelings—this apparent longing for open discussion. The result is a profound, enlightening, and much-needed exploration of what it means to be a person of color in Britain today, covering issues from erased Black history to white privilege, from the fallacy of "meritocracy" to the whitewashing of feminism, and the inextricable link between class and race. Filled with passionate, personal, and deeply personal conversations, *Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race* is a wake-up call for a nation in denial about the structural and institutional racism that takes place in our homes.
