Prisoner of Tehran

Author's name: Marina Nemat

In the early days of the Islamic Revolution led by Ayatollah Khomeini, Marina Nemat was arrested in Tehran on the evening of January 15, 1982, in the Iranian capital, Tehran, at the age of sixteen, and was later sent to Evin Prison in a wing for political prisoners sentenced to death for their political crimes.
Marina Nemat was not a political activist, but she protested when she was a high school student, when a teacher decided to teach Islamic culture in the math class instead of the math subject itself. Then her teacher told her: If you don’t like the class, you can leave.
Marina left the class, followed by most of the students. As a result, she was arrested and sent to Evin Prison. However, she was saved from execution at the last minute and released from prison after spending two years there. However, she never revealed her secret, nor the story of her rescue from execution, nor the events that she went through in prison. Even her parents and later husband did not know the secret.
