He meets none other than his neighbor, Jacob Gondal, an old man who dreams of sleeping in a cherry field. In his final days, he bought a cherry field and bequeathed his burial there, fully convinced that he would transform into a cherry tree. He believed in an ancient legend that says that after death, a person transforms into something that suits the environment in which they are buried. If buried in the mountains, they turn into rock; if buried in the desert, they turn into sand. After the death of his kind neighbor, Saeed's isolation intensifies, and he is cut off from the outside world. However, he receives an urgent message from Baghdad urging him to return immediately. The message's sender informs him that his father's remains have been found in a mass grave near the city of Babylon, so he decides to return to Iraq. He is kidnapped by an armed religious militia there and imprisoned in a dark basement in the Wadi al-Salam cemetery in Najaf, where he is sentenced to death. Events then unfold, intertwining in a journey fraught with many paradoxes and surprises.
