Ciri, a princess who survived the Nilfgaardian massacre of Cintra, is training at a Wychern castle, preparing to become a Wychern. However, it turns out that she also has inexplicable magical talents and is plagued by strange visions. The Wycherns summon the witch Triss. However, her abilities are not enough to train Ciri, so she suggests placing her under the care of the witch Yennefer and sending her to a girls' convent school run by Mother Nenneke. Geralt and Yennefer begin to fall in love with Ciri. Both are unable to have children and treat Ciri as their own daughter.
