The book contains 1903 hadiths narrated solely from the Companions, without mentioning the chain of transmission (isnad), beginning with the Companion and rarely with the Successor. It transmits the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad ( peace and blessings be upon him) as narrated by the Companions . In a few instances, it includes some sayings and actions of the Companions, either following the example of the Prophet Muhammad or striving to emulate his guidance. An-Nawawi said about his book: " I decided to compile a concise collection of authentic hadiths, committing myself to mentioning only clear and authentic hadiths, in addition to those found in well-known authentic books ." Several contemporary scholars, including Sheikh Al-Albani and Al-Arna'ut, have examined the book and deemed some of its hadiths weak, ruling that 3% of the book is weak. However, this finding indicates that it has reached a high degree of authenticity. The hadiths are distributed across nineteen books (excluding introductions), and the book contains several chapters, the number of which varies according to the subject matter. The chapters are numbered sequentially from the beginning to the end of the book.
