A Collection of Arabic Poetry by Abu Zayd al-Qurashi... “Abu Zayd al-Qurashi is Muhammad ibn Abi al-Khattab al-Qurashi, and his kunya is Abu Zayd. This is all that is known about him, as no biography of him has been found. Jurji Zaydan mentioned him in his book “History of Arabic Literature,” placing him among the men of the third century AH. Sulayman al-Bustani mentioned him in the introduction to the Iliad, placing his death in the year 170 AH, that is, in the middle of the early Abbasid period. Butrus al-Bustani, in his book “Arab Writers in the Abbasid Era,” believes that Abu Zayd was from the early Abbasid period, not the later one.”
