Ibn Malik's Alfiyyah, also known as "Al-Khulasah," is a poetic text by Imam Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Malik Al-Ta'i Al-Jayyani. It is one of the most important grammatical and linguistic poems, owing to the attention it received from scholars and men of letters, who took it upon themselves to comment on it with explanations and marginal notes. It also contains an abridged text from his major poem "Al-Kafiyah Al-Shafiyyah," in which he compiled the essence of the two sciences of grammar and morphology in a charming verse, while also pointing out the schools of thought of scholars and sometimes explaining his own personal opinions. Scholars have been particularly drawn to this book, to the point that the works of the great grammarians who came before him were forgotten. Those who came after him did not benefit from emulating it or claiming to add to it or take its place. If he had not referred to Ibn Mu'ti's Alfiyyah in his sermon, people would not have mentioned it or known about it. Ibn Malik's Alfiyya has been widely accepted by students of Arabic grammar, who have been more keen to memorize and explain it than other grammatical texts. This is due to its organization, simplicity of vocabulary, and concise coverage of grammatical and morphological rules, along with a precise arrangement of grammatical topics and precise citations for each one. It is taught in many schools and institutes, particularly religious and linguistic ones.
