This book is one of the concise books of Ahl al-Sunnah that covers the chapters of the Sunnah, belief, worship, and etiquette. It is known to many scholars as Al-Ibanah al-Sughra, to distinguish it from his other book, Al-Ibanah an Sharī’ah al-Fira al-Najiyah wa-Janubah al-Firaq al-Madhhumah, which is also known as Al-Ibanah al-Kubra. Ibn Battah (may Allah have mercy on him) explained the reason for writing this book, which was that he saw the people of his time straying from the Sunnah, associating partners with Allah (swt) with it, the spread of innovations and their approval of them, and their taking the ignorant and misguided as lords and imams of religion. This prompted him to compile a concise book for them, reminding them of the Sunnah and adhering to it, and what the early Muslims and scholars of hadith were upon, and warning them against innovations and misleading desires. The book is divided into four sections: First: A narration of the Prophetic hadiths and the hadiths of the salaf. Second: A mention of the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah. Third: A mention of the obligations, Sunnahs, morals, and etiquette that are necessary. Fourth: He mentioned the innovations that people have introduced that have no basis in the Book of Allah nor come from the hadiths of the righteous predecessors. The author has taken the approach of brevity, omitting the chains of transmission. Whoever wants more detail and explanation should refer to his book Al-Ibanah Al-Kubra.
