The sun rose again

I thought again about all the choices I had been denied, and about freedom... Despair was a choice. Hatred was a choice. Anger was a choice. And I discovered that I was still capable of choosing, and this thought shook me. I could choose between surrender and perseverance, for hope itself is a choice. Faith is a choice. And most importantly, love is a choice, and kindness is a choice. This book instills in us the spirit of perseverance and urges us to face violence, injustice, and intolerance with our heads held high, in a world that “treats you more favorably if you are rich and guilty than if you are poor and innocent.” It makes us feel the value of life and the value of humanity, assuring us that “the worth of each of us far outweighs our worst actions.”
