I didn't know how I started reading the first event, which is (Lydia's death); the book contains an important issue, which is interracial marriage in the United States of America in the mid-seventies and the personal problems that result from it. I think it is actually a story of the kind of conflicts that can occur when parents exceed the expectations of their children and either expect them to achieve specific successes in areas that the parents have been unable to fulfill for various reasons or to achieve goals beyond the children's ability, and problems arise when their children cannot satisfy them.
This is what Lydia suffers from and her struggle to please her parents, especially her mother, and so she does what her parents want, but she lives under psychological pressure. I find that the novel represents a reflection of a society that does not understand the human soul with its various fluctuations, and this is what things have come to, to find Lydia a victim of this societal disorder.
