Explanation of the Solar Epistle on Logic

Al-Ghazali said: He who does not know logic has no trust in the sciences at all, and he called it: (the criterion of knowledge). Al-Sayyid said: He who has more thought, his need for logic varies.
This science has been rejected and its benefits denied by those who do not understand it or study it, out of enmity towards what they do not know. Some people may imagine that it confuses beliefs, even though it is a subject for consideration and clarification.
The Shams Epistle on Logical Principles is a solid, comprehensive, and concise text, containing much of what the student needs. It is considered and widely circulated among the eminent scholars, and its fame suffices to say. It is a concise epistle on the principles of Aristotelian logic. Al-Katibi said in its introduction: “Sciences, especially certainty, are the highest of goals and the most splendid of virtues. Their companions are the most noble of human beings, and their souls are the quickest to connect with the royal minds. Understanding their subtleties and grasping the essence of their truths is only possible through the science called logic, for through it one knows their soundness from their weakness, and their worthlessness from their toxicity.”
This treatise has received considerable attention from scholars, who have devoted themselves to explaining, annotating, commenting, and reporting on it. The treatise and its commentaries are considered fundamental to the teaching of logic in the Islamic world, and are included in the curriculum of the regular studies in Iraq and abroad.
