“ The Sleeping Voice” is a story of a long wait, of Spain waiting to emerge from the war that led it to isolation. “The Sleeping Voice” depicts prisoners waiting for freedom, victory, or execution, a lover waiting for her lover for her entire life, a child waiting to grow up to complete what her father did not complete, and exiles waiting to return to their homeland or to something similar to it.

"The Sleeping Voice" tells the story of four comrades who met in the Las Pintas women's prison in Madrid after the end of the Spanish Civil War. They are "Ortensia," "Elvira," "Remi," and "Tomasa." Through their stories, their pain, their losses, and their small victories, they tell the story of a war whose embers still burn under the ashes to this day.

Dulce Chacón: A Spanish leftist novelist, poet, and playwright, born in 1954 and died in 2003. Her poetry collections include: (They Will Want to Name Her), (Stone Talk), (Kill the Angel), (Four Drops), and (Against the Loss of Height), which won the Irun City Prize. Her novels include: (Some Love Doesn’t Kill), (The Sky of Clay), (The Sleeping Voice), (Blanca Flying Tomorrow), and (Tell Me, Moses, About That Man). She took a courageous stance against the invasion of Iraq and joined José Saramago in an anti-war cultural movement.
