May Ziade

May Ziade was a Lebanese poet, writer, and translator (1886-1941). She drew extensively from the treasures of Arab literary heritage through her travels between Beirut, Nazareth, and Cairo, confirming her knowledge through foreign languages. However, Cairo was the most important station in her human journey since the time of scribes and literature. As the star of the young writer shone, she began to mix with writers and journalists, mastering Arabic literature, Islamic history, and philosophy, and becoming known as an essayist. She also established her own literary salon, "Tuesday's Symposium," which, over the years, gathered the elite writers of the era. This book aims to highlight a significant part of May Ziade's work and the attention it received over several decades. It contains more than 170 pieces, including articles, lectures, stories, prose poems, or thoughts in Arabic, English, French, and Italian, compiled by Anita Ziegler in her wonderful research from various periodicals and books, in addition to the author's editorials in Al-Ahram newspaper. These forgotten writings complement the works published recently and shed new light on May's life, especially the tragic last decade of it.
