"Umar ibn Luja" is Umar ibn al-Ash'ath ibn Luja' ibn Hudayr ibn Masad ibn Rabi'ah ibn al-Harith ibn Julham ibn Imru' al-Qais ibn Tha'labah ibn Sa'd ibn Dhuhl ibn Taym ibn Abd Manat ibn Udd ibn Tabikhah ibn al-Ilyas ibn Mudar ibn Nizar.
The author of Taj Al-Arus explains the reason for his name being used with the name of his grandfather, saying: “And he resorted, without the lam, the name of a man who is the grandfather of Omar bin Al-Ash’ath Al-Taymi, the poet, not his father. Al-Jawhari was mistaken and made him his father, but he is his grandfather. What Al-Jawhari mentioned is what the imams of genealogy and language agreed upon.”
Our poet is one of the poets of the Taym tribe who entered the circle of satire along with Jarir, Al-Farazdaq, Al-Akhtal and other poets.
From here, it seems that there were contradictions between Jarir and Ibn Luja’, and we do not claim to be the first to uncover the dust of these contradictions, which were unknown except for some passages and rajaz poems scattered there between the folds of books. During our reading of Mintaha al-Talab, we found ten long poems by Omar Ibn Luja’ in which he satirizes Jarir and criticizes his poems. This in turn makes the contradictions take a clearer and more complete picture after: the contradictions of Jarir and al-Farazdaq for Abu Ubaidah, the contradictions of Jarir and al-Akhtal, and the contradictions of Omar Ibn Luja’ and Jarir, through the pages of this collection and Mintaha al-Talab.
