The Diwan of Ibn al-Naqib al-Fuqaysi is a collection of poetry representing the output of an Andalusian poet who lived in the seventh century AH. He is considered one of the poets of Granada who emerged during the period of Andalusian literary flourishing prior to the fall of Andalusia. The collection includes poems in a variety of genres, from praise, elegy, and love poetry to description and contemplation, reflecting aspects of the cultural and political life of his era.
Ibn al-Naqib's poetry is characterized by its richness and clarity of meaning, combining influences from Eastern traditions with Andalusian specificity in terms of imagery and style. Political concerns are also evident in his poetry, particularly those related to the weakness of the Andalusian state and the decline of Muslim influence in the Iberian Peninsula, alongside emotional and contemplative perspectives that reflect the poet's concern about the cultural and spiritual fate of Andalusian civilization.
The Diwan is a literary and historical document, highlighting one of the voices that sought to preserve the Andalusian identity at a critical moment in its history.
