Al-Walid ibn Yazid was one of the young men of the Umayyad dynasty, their witty, brave and generous. He had knowledge of music and was famous for his revelry and drinking of alcohol. His reputation deteriorated, so Yazid ibn al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik called for his deposition. He had a huge collection of poems and verses that he composed on various topics, which the researcher investigated by referring to hundreds of heritage sources, extracting the poems and verses verse by verse to make it easier for the reader to find the sources of each verse. He divided his collection into two sections: one section includes the poems that al-Walid did not dispute with any other poet, and one section includes what was attributed to al-Walid and others.
