Ziyad ibn Muawiyah ibn Dhubab al-Dhubyani al-Ghatafani al-Mudari, Abu Umamah. A pre-Islamic poet, of the first class. From the people of Hijaz. A dome of red leather was pitched for him in the Ukaz market, and poets would come to him and recite their poems to him. Al-A'sha, Hassan, and al-Khansa were among those whose poetry he would recite to al-Nabigha. Abu Amr ibn al-Ala preferred him over all other poets. He was one of the nobles of the pre-Islamic era. He was favored by al-Nu'man ibn al-Mundhir, until he mentioned al-Mujarradah (al-Nu'man's wife) in a poem, which angered al-Nu'man. Al-Nu'man became angry, so al-Nu'man fled and went to the Ghassanids in Syria, where he disappeared for a while. Then al-Nu'man was pleased with him, so he returned to him.
