Historians all agree that his name is "Laqeet bin Ya'mar Al-Ayadi," and they unanimously agree that he is related to the tribe of Iyad. However, they differ on other matters. The information recorded about his life is very shallow, and is fraught with myth and confusion. The correct information hardly goes beyond mentioning his name. Laqeet lived during a period of Arab fervor during the pre-Islamic era, and his memory is associated with raising the status of the Arabs. He embodied the spirit of Arab nationalism and sacrificed himself to liberate his people from a treacherous, attacking enemy. He was the first martyr to give his life cheaply for the sake of Arab freedom and dignity. Laqeet composed his first and only poem more than 1,600 years ago while imprisoned. His emotions were at the height of their turmoil and violence. This poetic letter is considered the first literary text in the art of correspondence. This book includes a biography of Laqeet bin Ya'mar Al-Ayadi, his poetry collection, and three handwritten copies of his collection, photocopied from their preserved originals.
