Abu Firas Al-Harith bin Saeed bin Hamdan Al-Hamduni, his paternal uncles go back to Taghlib and his maternal uncles to Tamim, as he states in his poetry. It is said that he was born in Mosul, and his father named him Al-Harith and gave him the kunya Abu Firas, meaning lion. He did not disappoint his father, as he was a knight among the renowned knights. Abu Firas was raised as an orphan, cared for by his mother and was cared for by his cousin Sayf Al-Dawla, the brother of Nasir Al-Dawla. The poetry of Abu Firas, the subject of this book, is emotional and speaks of the personality of its author, the personality of a man of high character, proud, brave, sincere in his affection, loving and dutiful to his mother, loving his children and his country, and loyal to his cousin Sayf Al-Dawla. He was a Shiite follower of the Prophet's family, and he has three poems about them that are among his most wonderful poems, in which he expresses his devotion to them and his sincere attachment to them, and his pain for the injustice and harm that befell them.

Abu Firas infused Arabic poetry with his Romances, which he composed while captivated by an emotional tone that had never been seen before, expressing sincere feelings, realistic depictions, complaints, and pain. This tone is what guaranteed him literary immortality.
