Abu al-Faraj al-Isfahani said about Anan al-Natifiya in his book, Kitab al-Aghani: “Anan was born in Medina, and was raised and educated there. Al-Natif bought and raised her. She had a beautiful yellow face, a beautiful figure, and was well-mannered and poetic, and quick-witted. The most famous poets would compete with her and debate her, and she would prevail over them.” This poetess has several stories with Harun al-Rashid. Ibn al-Nadim mentioned in his book “al-Fihrist” that Anan had a poetry collection of twenty pages, but this collection was not found. Therefore, the researcher worked on collecting her poems in this book, which were scattered throughout the main books and sources. He investigated them and included her stories in this collection.
