This work includes an investigation into the Diwan of Ibn Sahl al-Andalusi, based on an original manuscript of the Diwan from the Maghreb, whose poems are arranged according to the Moroccan alphabetical order, in addition to eleven other sources that Dar Sader relied on in the investigation for comparison with the original scanned copy of the manuscript. To begin with, who is Ibn Sahl? He is Ibrahim ibn Sahl, also known as Abu Ishaq, from Seville, born in 605 AH (1208 AD). He was a Jew who converted to Islam. He was a writer, poet, and man of letters, with poems of love, praise, lamentation, and muwashshahat. He was originally from Seville and lived in Ceuta, Morocco. He died in 649 AH (1251 AD), while he was with the governor of Ceuta on a boat trip, when they capsized and drowned. The collection begins with an introduction about Ibn Sahl's life and the era in which he was born, written by Dr. Ihsan Abbas. This is followed by the poet's collection of poems arranged alphabetically by Ibn Al-Dahan, which is the original manuscript version, and is written in the Arabic poetic meters / free verse. In a look at the poetry and muwashshahat of Ibn Sahl al-Andalusi, Dr. Ihsan Abbas says: “.. most of what remains of Ibn Sahl’s poetry falls into two major themes: praise and love poetry, and the least of it is connected to satire, elegy, description of nature, and fraternal correspondence. If we put it in a piece of paper” of his era, we would find that he did not exhaust his talent in seeking innovative or new images, which fascinated his friend Ibn Saeed, and counted among them his saying: His black flags are flags of his nobility... as if they were above the king Khaylan. And in praise he says: And dawn writes on a horizontal page... a thousand that erased the light of the gilded crescent.... This book, its pages, reveal a history full of enthusiasm and risk, on the one hand, and on the other hand, the characteristics of Andalusian poetry with all that distinguishes it from tenderness, beauty, exquisite imagination, and sweet music, which Ibn Sahl al-Andalusi was unique in.
