Subat Ibn Al-Ta'awidhi is the one about whom Shams Al-Din Ibn Khallikan said that he was the poet of his time, there was no one like him. His poetry combined rich and sweet words with delicate and precise meanings, and he was at the pinnacle of beauty and sweetness. Two hundred years before him, there was no one who could match him. It was as if he preferred him over the poets who preceded him since the era of Al-Mutanabbi, who was agreed to be the shining light in their arena. "So, it was the grandson of Ibn al-Ta'awidhi" like a praying man, and many writers and historians have cited his verses. The collection presented to the reader is taken from two copies in the famous Badliani Library, one of which is arranged according to what the author described in his sermon, and the other according to the arrangement of the rhymes. Its writer said that this copy was completed after the afternoon on the twenty-first of Rabi` al-Akhir in the year 979 by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad, known as Ibn Dajajah al-Umawi. This copy includes all of the collection except for a few poems, and the classified copy has written in its title, “The First Collection of Poetry of the Noble Scholar, the Eminent Majd al-Dawla wa al-Din Jamal al-Kitab Abu al-Fath Muhammad ibn Ubayd Allah, the grandson of al-Ta'awidhi, and that is what was written for him and what was reported from him of additions in the copies. They come at the end of this collection, each piece is among those who composed it.”
