The Diwan of Ibn Zaydun is a collection of poems by the famous Andalusian poet Abu al-Walid Ahmad ibn Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Ghalib ibn Zaydun al-Makhzumi. This collection was compiled and published thanks to the efforts of the editor and professor Karam al-Bustani. The collection contains a variety of poems that range in subject matter from love poetry, longing, and descriptions of nature, to poems of complaint and reproach, to poems of praise and lamentation, in addition to poems of various other subjects. Ibn Zaydun is considered one of the greatest poets of Andalusia and a poet of classical Arabic. He was distinguished by his powerful expression, poetic structure, and linguistic excellence. His poetry was directed to his beloved Layla, who inspired his love poems and imbued them with romance and passion. Ibn Zaydun was known for being one of the most prominent poets of the Andalusian period and for his closeness to the Umayyad ruler, Abbad al-Mu'tadid, in Seville, considered one of the most important figures in government and culture during that period. Ibn Zaydoun's Diwan is considered one of the most valuable literary references in ancient Arabic literature, and represents an important cultural legacy that embodies the splendor and art of Arabic poetry in that historical period.
