Hamid ibn Thawr ibn Hazn al-Hilali al-Amiri, Abu al-Muthanna, a veteran poet who lived during the pre-Islamic era and witnessed the battle of Hunayn with the polytheists. He converted to Islam and visited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He died after the caliphate of Uthman. It is said that he lived during the time of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. Al-Jumahi included him in the fourth class of Muslims, and his poetry includes what he used to sing. Al-Asma'i said: The four eloquent Arab poets in Islam are: the camel herder al-Numayri, Tamim ibn Muqbil al-Ajlani, Ibn Ahmar al-Bahili, and Hamid ibn Thawr al-Hilali from Qays Ailan. He died around 70 AH and it is said that he lived during the pre-Islamic era. This is just a drop in the ocean of al-Hilali's poetry.
