Diwan of Jarir

This book brings together the two collections of the poet Jarir. The book was prepared by Dar Sadir and begins with an introduction about the poet Jarir bin Atiya Al-Khatfi (33-114 AH). He grew up in Al-Yamamah, where he died and was buried. He was famous for his satirical poetry filled with insults. However, according to what this book sees, “Jarir, despite his obscenity and conviction in his satire, was violent in his love poetry, chaste in his life, did not drink alcohol, and did not attend the gatherings of female singers... In his satire, he would track down the faults of his opponent or what he considered to be shortcomings in him, and would taunt and satirize him with them... Jarir would begin most of his poems of praise and satire with traditional love poetry. The most beautiful and most tender of his love poetry, and the most sincere of his feelings, was what he said about his wife Khalida with intense love... His poetry, in most of its praise and satire, is no less coarse and strange than the poetry of Al-Farazdaq, its meanings and elements of expression... He has pure glimpses that are what the true value of our poet's collection of poems is based on, and accordingly Jarir's collection of poems is distributed according to the meters of Arabic poetry, rhymed and balanced, and according to the alphabetical order. It begins with the letter Alif and ends with the letter Ya), with an explanation of the words and meanings and an introduction. Each poem shows the poet's purpose, whether in praise, satire or flirting.
