The novel revolves around the Soldier's War. Two British army battalions landed in Dubai on December 23, 1910, and headed to the home of Sheikh Ahmed bin Dalmouk and merchant Thani bin Khalaf to search for weapons they believed to be hidden there. They stormed the two houses, killing some of their occupants and climbing onto the roofs to prevent the Arabs from helping their brothers. The people of Dubai rushed to their aid, and a bloody battle ensued, killing and wounding dozens. The novel's heroine, poet Hedaya Al Sajoub, recalls the incident and the steadfastness of Sheikh Butti bin Suhail Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai at the time. She recounts significant historical events in Dubai and the Arabian Gulf, including the fall of the islands of Lingah and Hanyam to the Persians. The novel also depicts the daily lives of the people of Dubai at that time.
