Obaid is an orphan young man from Al Ain, born at the beginning of the twentieth century. He grew up in the desert and learned sword-making, but he fell in love with the sea. He decided to travel to Dubai to become a sailor, and despite the opposition of his mother and sister, he left for Dubai and boarded a ship departing on a long journey.
The ship was shipwrecked on the shore of an island, and Obaid was the only survivor. He discovered that a primitive tribe inhabited the island. He tried to escape, but pirates and slave traders attacked and kidnapped the princess. His chivalry was aroused, and he freed the princess. With the help of the islanders, he defeated the pirates and slave traders. Obaid married the princess and had children with her. He longed to return to his homeland, but the pirates and slave traders attacked the island again, killing him, his wife, and a large number of members of the tribe. Obaid kept all his memoirs in manuscripts that were found by Saif, a young Emirati man who loved travel and collecting antiques. Saif decided to travel to the island, where he discovered that Obaid's granddaughter still ruled the island. He then returned to Al Ain to visit Obaid's nephew and tell him the story of his uncle, "the captain of the desert."
