I Accuse

A book that takes you from the very first lines to a true meaning linked with documents and evidence for condemnation, presenting a different and distinguished testimony, given the scarcity of historical sources that speak of the tragedy of the Morisco Muslims after the fall of Granada, and the crimes committed against them.
Since the incident of “tears and sighs” uttered by Abu Abdullah al-Saghir, weeping like women for a kingdom he did not protect like men, as his mother Aisha al-Hurra told him, the history of Andalusia in most sources seems to have stopped, and many historians did not pay much attention to that period, to those who remained there under the yoke and injustice of Castilian rule. Some researchers attribute the reluctance of most Arab historians to review and record the tragedy of the Muslim human there to various reasons, among them the view of some historians towards the Moriscos in Valencia, which fell before Granada, and whose people became domesticated under Spanish rule, ready to make every effort to remain in their land and homeland. Consequently, there was a large historical vacuum in tracing the serious violations committed by the Spanish kings and their priests against the Muslim inhabitants, first in Valencia, and then in Granada, whose fall dealt a strong blow to the hope of the domesticated in the Iberian Peninsula for support, upon which they relied to recover Muslim lands subject to Christian sovereignty. Furthermore, the existence of the Kingdom of Granada as a separate entity was sufficient to make Spanish policy think a thousand times before taking any step that would restrict Muslims subject to Christian sovereignty. However, after the fall of Granada, the policy of tolerance towards Muslims in Spanish cities began to decline, and the Catholic monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella easily reneged on the covenants made to the Muslims in Granada, which were stipulated in the treaty of surrender of Granada issued by the Catholic monarchs to Abu Abdullah al-Saghir and the people of Granada on November 25, 1491 CE, corresponding to the 21st of Muharram in the year 897 AH, which stipulated the protection of the faith, property, and persons for Muslims in Granada.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, in this book, published by “Al Qasimi Publications” in 2017, presents two very important things regarding the subject of the book: first, documented historical material about the violation of Muslim rights after the Spanish conquest of Granada and the fall of the last strongholds of the Islamic state there; and second, a supported legal document sufficient to prosecute those Spaniards who still dare to deny Muslim Moriscos their rights and refuse even to apologize for all the heinous crimes committed against them.
