The book "The Ten-Rupee Camera" by Sheikha Jassim Mohammed Mubarak Al Suwaidi chronicles the life of Sheikha Al Suwaidi, the first Emirati female photographer, and the beginning of her passion for photography when she bought her first camera for 10 dirhams. This marked the start of a long journey to master the art of photography before the establishment of the United Arab Emirates, leaving numerous imprints in every corner of the Emirates. Al Suwaidi says about her artistic journey, "The camera called to me, and I answered the call. I started photographing the old neighborhoods and districts I moved through in the 1950s and 60s, as well as the arish (palm frond) houses where I lived, the marine environment, Dubai Creek, and the fishing, pearl, and trading boats. What a time it was, and what a camera! From a camera borrowed from an employee in an office on Dubai Creek, to a camera bought for me, for photographing my family and loved ones in Dubai, where I lived my most beautiful days and youth. It was a life, and what a life it was."
