Omani Arabic Documents in French Archive Centers

During the compilation of his book (The Omani-French Relationship), His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi, the esteemed researcher and editor, collected numerous documents from various French institutions, such as the "Réunion Island Archive Department," the "French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Archive," and the "Cannes Municipal Library." His Highness then meticulously edited these documents, organizing those related to the Franco-Omani relationship by date and event. He supplemented them with historical information about each document, clarifying ambiguous words and phrases. The researcher noted that correspondence between France and Oman was conducted through the French Consul in Baghdad, the Governor of Mauritius, and the Governors of Réunion Island. These relations significantly developed after 1817 through envoys and correspondence, then through French consuls in Zanzibar, and subsequently through the resident French Consul in Muscat. After studying the documents, two important facts became clear to the researcher: first, the change in the names of some islands, and second, the abundance of errors in the documents.
