Power and Trade Struggles in the Gulf 1620-1820

This book recounts the Persian power struggles and other local disputes over trade in the Gulf, and the affairs of the European East India Companies. Upon the death of Nader Shah in 1747, Persia was a truly dominant power, but the ensuing vacuum saw the beginning of the establishment of the Al Utub in Bahrain and Al Qurain (Kuwait). Arab sheikhs on the Persian coast also solidified their positions with their trading centers, and powers on the Arabian coast of the Gulf joined these conflicts, such as the Al Busaid in Muscat and the Qawasim in Julfar. This book is a resource for researchers interested in the history of ruling families on both sides of the Gulf, and a reference for researchers in economics and trade in the Gulf during that period.
