The novel from which Hayao Miyazaki adapted his timeless masterpiece, Future Boy Conan (also known as Adnan and Lina), which was his first television series, is not a rosy, happy story. On the contrary, it is a dystopian tale that begins with the protagonist, Conan (Adnan), after the end of World War III and the sweeping change known as "The Change," which has turned the entire world upside down. North is no longer North, nor South South, and the lands and seas have changed completely. Adnan finds himself alone on a remote island, completely cut off from the unknown world beyond the vast sea he sees before him.
