A true story, with real characters and events, set in Ohio, USA, and revolving around an Arab Gulf family's experience of the events of September 11, 2001, and the subsequent repercussions following the bombing of the World Trade Center towers in New York.
It's a shocking experience that places Nora and her family in a new situation, exposing the "stranger" and his preconceived notions and prejudices toward Arabs and Muslims. It forces her to reevaluate her own perspectives and rethink her ideas. It's a difficult and intense period, the repercussions of which reveal the hidden human conflict between the "self" and the "other." It prompts the presentation and discussion of ideas, and prompts questions about the basis for decision-making and position-building, all in an attempt to understand the self before anything else.
The author believes that life is a collection of opportunities and experiences. If a person makes the most of them, bringing about change within, he will return to his pure, unadulterated nature...to his humanity. Yes, it may be difficult for us to let go of the prejudices we accumulate through our experiences and the ways we were raised and educated, and to which we cling, but it is not impossible.
