There is no doubt that this book sparked such controversy that it came to be considered one of the most famous books of the twentieth century. In it, the author argued against the legitimacy of "pre-Islamic poetry" belonging to its era, claiming it was plagiarized from the early Islamic period. These novel views shocked his contemporaries and their repercussions continue to this day, sparking intellectual battles between the doctor and his opponents, both in newspapers and magazines and in entire books written to refute him. The matter went beyond that, and the doctor was referred to the Public Prosecution on charges of atheism and insulting Islam, though he was acquitted. All of this was merely for free opinions on literature written by the "Dean of Arabic Literature." The author followed the "scientific research method" in his analysis of pre-Islamic poetry, using Descartes' method of doubt as a basis for constructing his critique.
