This book is not the voice of Abu al-Ala alone, but rather a tumultuous musical embrace of two unique voices in Arabic literature. The poet's voice, or rather his echo, has maintained its strength, vigour, and rebellion despite the passage of time. Then came Taha Hussein's voice, joining him in playing the strings of truth, reality, and philosophy. This time, however, the medium is prose. The dean scatters what al-Ma'arri composed, and the two figures, despite their temporal distance, meet in a captivating creative crucible where imagination is magnified and an unusual image of the self and human consciousness is imprinted. Through this unprecedented approach, the dean of Arabic literature aimed to bring Abu al-Ala's art closer to readers, both general and particular, and to offer an accessible reading of al-Ma'arri's "Luzumiyyat." Undeterred by the heightened pessimism in his poems, he viewed them as essential for self-improvement and the pursuit of a more advanced future.
