Taha Hussein wrote these chapters as if he were speaking to his listeners in one of his radio interviews. They came across as if they were spoken, so you read them as if he were sitting next to you, telling stories about Arab poets and their masters. When he wrote and sent them to "Al-Siyasa" and "Al-Jihad" magazines, the author did not intend for them to become a book circulated by people and taken as a reference for Arabic literature throughout its pre-Islamic, Islamic, and modern eras. However, they became so, perhaps against his wishes. These studies are considered among the most sincere and extensive critical studies that have delved into this aspect of Arabic literature, discussing the artistic side of several major poets, analyzing their poems with eloquent and verbal explanations. It also devoted a large section of the study to the issue of ancient and modern poets, and it concluded with a fragrant ending, where the Dean of Arabic Literature reviewed correspondence between him and a number of writers of his era regarding various literary and critical issues.
