Quarrel and Criticism - Taha Hussein

A true intellectual always feels a responsibility towards their nation and its issues. They work to present its problems, warn of their danger, and then propose necessary solutions to resolve them. This is precisely what the great writer "Taha Hussein" did throughout his life, dedicating his pen to serving Arabic literature through study and investigation. He understood that literature is the custodian of the nation's heritage and an important source for studying its history, as well as expressing its spirit and the philosophy of its people, and even reflecting their tastes. In this book, he alerts us to the obstacles facing Arabic literature, such as the absence of freedoms and the deterioration that has afflicted education—at various stages. Consequently, our literary output weakened, and generations emerged that rarely read, and if they did read, they often sought easy, light texts with simple language approaching the colloquial. It was therefore imperative for the dean of literature to openly declare his opposition and criticism of those writers who did not preserve the appropriate status of our culture.
