He works to present its problems, highlight their dangers, and then propose the necessary solutions to eliminate them. This is what the great writer Taha Hussein did throughout his life, devoting his pen to serving Arabic literature through study and investigation. He realized that literature is the incubator of the nation's heritage and an important source for studying its history. It also expresses its spirit and the philosophy of its people, and even reflects their tastes. In this book, he alerts us to the obstacles facing Arabic literature, such as the absence of freedoms and the deterioration of education at various levels. This has weakened our literary production and created generations who rarely read, and when they do read, they often seek out easy, light texts with simple language close to colloquial Arabic. It was imperative that the dean of literature openly express his opposition and criticism of these writers who have failed to preserve our culture's proper place.
