Ibn Ruwaibikh, may God have mercy on him, would always repeat a funny proverb: When he saw a poor person whose rights had been denied or wronged, he would shake his head, smile, and sarcastically say: “The poor person is the dog’s cousin.” If Ibn Ruwaibikh were to live now, he might change his mind and look for another cousin for the poor person. Dogs have surpassed the poor and reached the stage of luxury, with hospitals, hotels, and nurseries available for them. When they are sold, huge auctions are held for them, like rare collectibles and valuable antiques. But when they want to eat, they are confused about what to choose from the types of food that crowd the shelves of the markets and are filled with commercial advertisements.
